Overview of Laboratory

Our laboratory is developing new mathematical/computer science methodologies and applying them to real omics data, in particular, clarifying the relationship between an individuals’ omics data with their disease susceptibility and drug response, drug efficacy, dose requirements and adverse reactions. Also, we conduct research on next generation methodologies, e.g. integrating various omics and molecular datasets to clarify trans-omics relationships. Such research will identify disease-related genes for new drug targets, and establish personalized and/or precision medicine.

Job descriptions:
Under the leadership of the supervisor, carry out research in:

  1. Development of mathematical/algorithmic methodologies for exploring etiologies, sub-classification, and risk prediction of diseases.
  2. Application of the methodologies to real data for the advancement of personalized and precision medicine.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a field related to those described in the overview (Postdoctoral Researchers must have completed their PhD within the last 5 years).
  • Research experience in proposing new statistical/computational science methodologies, or research experience in the application of such methodologies to disease analysis.
  • Well versed in UNIX/Linux OS, and well experienced in scientific programming using script or C-like languages along with the ability to code in them.
  • Preferably, research experience in large-scale genomic data analysis.

Salary and Benefits

Terms of contract

  1. A one-year fixed-term employment contract, renewable based on evaluation, until March 31, 2020 (the scheduled completion of the CREST project written in “Job Descriptions”).
  2. RIKEN will decide whether to enter into a new contract on the basis of the employee's abilities, work load, performance, work attitude, and continuation of the center, laboratory or project in which the employee is involved at the time of termination of the original contract, and on the basis of RIKEN's situation and budget conditions at the time.
  3. For contracts beginning on or after April 1, 2013, RIKEN will not enter into a new fixed-term employment contract that extends the employee’s total years of employment at RIKEN to more than 10 years.

Salary

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Commuting and housing allowances will be provided. Social insurance will be applied. Mandatory membership in the RIKEN Mutual Benefit Society (RIKEN Kyosaikai).

Holidays

Days off include public holidays, New Year's holidays (Dec. 29 - Jan 3), and RIKEN Foundation Day.
