Research field and overview

The Quantum Optoelectronics Research Team aims at developing optoelectronic devices with novel functionalities by engineering devices that incorporate individual nano-materials. Such devices could allow for control over interactions between photons and electrons at the nanoscale, and may potentially be used for manipulation of quantum degrees of freedom, for example electron spins and photon polarization. We are particularly interested in developing quantum photon sources, quantum electroluminescence devices, and optical-to-electrical quantum interfaces.

(Postdoctoral Researcher is defined as those with a doctoral degree of 5 years or less.)

Job description

Successful applicant is expected to conduct experimental research in the Quantum Optoelectronics Team under the guidance of Dr. Yuichiro Kato. Our current research efforts include, but are not limited to, carbon nanotube photonics and optoelectronics, photonic crystals, and exciton manipulation. Projects will involve fabrication and engineering of nanoscale devices, microspectroscopy and imaging measurements, and development of automated data collection and analysis systems.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, or a closely related field, by the date of appointment. Written and verbal English proficiency is required. Applicants are expected to have a strong publication record that demonstrates their capability for cutting-edge scientific research. Extensive experience in nanofabrication and/or microspectroscopy is highly preferred.

Salary and benefits

One-year fixed-term employment contract, renewable, and based on evaluation, up until March 31, 2022

The salary system is annual and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Commuting and housing allowances will be provided. Social insurance will apply. Mandatory membership in the RIKEN Mutual Benefit Society (RIKEN Kyosaikai) is required.
Days off include public holidays, New year’s holidays (Dec. 29 – Jan. 3), and RIKEN Foundation Day.
These and other provisions are in accordance with RIKEN regulations.
