Seeking a Team Leader

Research Field

The Engineering Team aims to provide top-quality research equipment and environments to all SPring-8 and SACLA users. Team members not only maintain the experiment devices (hard or soft) in working order at all times, but also collaborate with researchers to develop new devices and to build new infrastructure as required. The technology used covers a variety of fields ranging from legacy to advanced such as optics, machinery, electronics, network, storage, software, and others. The team is also responsible for the construction, maintenance, and management of various existing (or to be built) facilities at RIKEN SPring-8 Center (RSC) and for the full-time operation (24 hours a day, 365 days a year) of the RSC facilities.

Job Title: Team Leader (one position)

Task content: responsible for the Engineering Team and its activities, including:

  1. development, manufacturing, and operation of experimental equipment and measuring devices using high energy synchrotron radiation,
  2. control, data processing, management, and operation of experimental equipment using high energy synchrotron radiation and development of related analysis programs,
  3. technical support work to develop and conduct optics experiments,
  4. coordination of site design and construction for new research facilities at SPring-8,
  5. planning and carrying out general tasks for maintenance and control operations for existing research facilities at the SPring-8 site, and
  6. administrative management tasks to promote research activities.

Qualification

The applicant must have the following qualifications:

  1. a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience,
  2. work experience as a supervisor in the R&D section with multi-job functions as stated above, and
  3. good communication skills to interact with all personnel and to properly perform required tasks.

Salary and benefits

  1. A one-year fixed-term employment contract, renewable based on evaluation, to a maximum of the end of the fiscal year (March 31) in which the employee completes 7 years of employment.
  2. RIKEN may adjust the above maximum period of renewability based on a) the employee's abilities, workload at the time of contract completion, performance and work attitude and b) the continuation of the employee's center, laboratory or project and RIKEN's management situation and budget at that time.
  3. The employee's period of fixed-term employment cannot exceed 10 years from the initial date of hire (or 10 years from April 1, 2013 for fixed-term employees already at RIKEN prior to this date).

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Commuting and housing allowances will be provided. Social insurance will be applied. The position requires membership in the RIKEN Mutual Benefit Society (RIKEN Kyosaikai). Days off include public holidays, New Year's holidays (Dec. 29 - Jan 3), and RIKEN Foundation Day.
These and other provisions are in accordance with RIKEN regulations.
