Research Field

We work on ElectroMicrobiology, which is an interdisciplinary field of Microbiology and Physical Chemistry. In particular, our targets are observation, regulation, and optimization of microbial metabolism by bacterial extracellular electron transfer. We also attempt to develop a new method for the evaluation of ecological homeostasis, which can contribute to generation of energy and resources, as well as for environmental conservation.

Technical support in cell culture, metabolism measurement and metabolism control, with electrochemical techniques.


The applicant should hold a bachelors level or higher degree.
Having enough experience either in microbiology, environmental ecology, molecular biology, or biochemistry is preferred.
Basic computer skills (Email, Excel, Word, and Power Point) are required.

Salary and benefits

Hourly wage: 1000JPN~1500JPN (Hourly wages will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.)
Commuting allowance: provided (within a pre-determined range.)
Term of contract: Annual contract,Initial term of contract shall be until March 31, 2018
Working hours: within 26 hours/week with daily working hours between 9:00 to 16:50 (Working hours are negotiable. However, daily working hours cannot be shifted for different days.)
Holidays: Saturdays and Sundays, Japanese National Holidays, Year-end and New Year (Dec. 29 - Jan 3), and RIKEN Foundation Day (4th Monday in October).
Others: Worker's accident compensation insurance applies. No health insurance. Unemployment insurance applies only when the employee works more than 20 hours/week and is employed for more than 31 days (not applicable to students.) Other provisions are in accordance with RIKEN regulations.
