Research Field

The Next-Generation Proteomics team focuses in obtaining a deep understanding of protein expression and function in complex systems. The team applies cutting-edge mass spectrometry technology and bioinformatics analysis for highly multiplexed protein quantification. This technology is applied in a wide range of research including biomarker discovery, pathway analysis and mechanism studies. Our team conducts accurate and highly multiplexed protein quantification for research in immunology, metabolism and aging.

Job title and Job description

Available Positions: One opening for a Technical Staff (full-time, part-time).

Job descriptions:
You are responsible to perform sample preparation for mass spectrometry, and basic bioinformatical and statistical analysis of omics data. You assist the team to optimize workflow for proteomics analysis.

Position-specific tasks are as follows:

  1. Perform wet lab tasks, e.g. protein extraction and digestion
  2. Conduct omics data analysis, mainly proteomics data
  3. Assist in mass spectrometry measurement

Technical Staff:
Provides technical support for laboratory, etc.

Qualification

  • Education in biology-related fields (at least MSc degree, preferably PhD)
  • Interest in mass spectrometry and omics data analysis
  • Responsible and accurate working style, and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Good ability to communicate in English
  • Must have good communication skills and be able to engage in the research in a coordinated manner.

Salary and benefits

Terms of contract:

  1. One-year fixed-term employment contract, renewable based on evaluation, up to June 30, 2022.
  2. RIKEN may adjust the above maximum period of renewability based on a) the employee's abilities, work load at the time of contract completion, performance and work attitude and b) the continuation of the employee's center, laboratory or project and RIKEN's management situation and budget at the time. In principle, employment contracts will not be renewed for individuals older than 65 years.
  3. The employee's period of fixed-term employment cannot exceed 10 years from the initial date of hire (or 10 years from April 1, 2013 for fixed-term employees already at RIKEN prior to this date).

Salary

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Commuting and housing allowances will be provided. Social insurance will be applied. Mandatory membership in the RIKEN Mutual Benefit Society (RIKEN Kyosaikai).

Holidays

Days off include public holidays, New Year's holidays (Dec. 29 - Jan 3), and RIKEN Foundation Day.

Other provisions

Other provisions are in accordance with RIKEN regulations.

For part-time positions

*Consultation is available for those considering part-time positions (Special Appointment Employees). The work schedule for such a position is one of the following:

  1. 7.5 hours per day, 4 days per week (30 hours total/week)
  2. 6 hours per day, 5 days per week (30 hours total/week)
  3. 7 hours per day, 4 days per week (28 hours total/week)

The fixed monthly salary is based on employee experience, abilities and results. Other matters such as the contract period, social insurance, holidays, allowances, etc. are the same as for full-time employees.
