Interdisciplinary Theoretical and Mathematical Sciences Program
(Program Director: Tetsuo Hatsuda)

Research field and overview

Interdisciplinary Theoretical and Mathematical Sciences (iTHEMS) program” (program director: T. Hatsuda) promotes interdisciplinary collaborations and creation of new interdisciplinary fields through the interactions among researchers in mathematics, theoretical sciences, and computational sciences. For example, in theoretical biology, we study biological phenomena in molecular, cellular or organ levels using theoretical methods including mathematics, physics or computational science. At the same time, we are promoting studies to find universal principles, which are not specific to one of such biological levels and are widely applicable to natural science in general. Also, iTHEMS aims at nurturing young scientists who cross the boundaries between different disciplines.
