Research Field

The laboratory aims to understand molecular mechanism for immune regulation and homeostasis through T cell function. Activation, differentiation and functional expression of T cells are analyzed. Mechanisms of pathogenesis of allergy and autoimmune diseases as immune dysregulation of T cells are also analyzed.

1 opening for a Research Scientist, Postdoctoral Researcher or a Research Associate
*Candidates with less than five years of postdoctoral experience will be considered as Postdoctoral Researcher.

Job Descriptions:
A successful candidate will work on research to analyze T cell-mediated immune regulation, especially on the mechanism of T cell activation and differentiation, and also the pathogenesis of autoimmune and allergic inflammation diseases on animal models, by using biochemical and imaging analyses and molecular biology.


  1. Ph.D. in fields of Immunology, or molecular and cellular biology. Those about to finish a Ph.D. will apply for a Research Associate position.
  2. Good skills to conduct biochemical analysis, molecular biology and flow cytometry experiments. Research experience with imaging analysis by using microscopy will be also favorable.
  3. Good communication skills in English and cooperation with other people and the ability to engage in research in a coordinated manner.

Salary and Benefits

Terms of contract:

  1. A one-year fixed-term employment contract, renewable based on evaluation, until March 31, 2021.
  2. RIKEN will decide whether to enter into a new contract on the basis of the employee's abilities, work load, performance, work attitude, and continuation of the center, laboratory or project in which the employee is involved at the time of termination of the original contract, and on the basis of RIKEN's situation and budget conditions at the time.
  3. For contracts beginning on or after April 1, 2013, RIKEN will not enter into a new fixed-term employment contract that extends the employee's total years of employment at RIKEN to more than 10 years.

Salary is determined annually on the basis of employee experience, abilities and research results. Commuting and housing allowances will be provided and social insurance applies (health insurance, pension insurance, worker's accident compensation insurance, unemployment insurance, etc.).
* Mandatory membership in the RIKEN Mutual Benefit Society (RIKEN Kyosaikai).

Saturdays and Sundays, Japanese National Holidays, year-end and New Year (Dec.29-Jan.3), summer holidays and RIKEN Foundation Day (4th Monday in October).

Other provisions are in accordance with RIKEN regulations.
* Eligible for an exemption from repayment of category 1 scholarship loans provided by the Japan Student Services Organization before fiscal year 2003.
