Shun-ichi Amari receives Award of the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon

On June 18, 2011, it was announced that Dr. Shun-ichi Amari, Senior Advisor at the RIKEN Brain Science Institute (BSI), will receive the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon.

Dr. Amari has proved the importance of mathematical engineering for founding modern technology, through his many publications that are highly influential in the international community of Statistical Sciences and Information Theory. He is recognized as the originator of Information Geometry and is famous for his pioneering contributions to Neural Network Theory of the brain function.

He provided guidance to many young scientists at the University of Tokyo and contributed greatly to advancing Japanese science and technology as the Director of RIKEN Brain Science Institute.
