On May 18, His Imperial Highness Prince Akishino visited the RIKEN Advanced Institute for Computational Science in Kobe. Prince Akishino’s visit began with a welcome address and introduction to RIKEN by President Hiroshi Matsumoto, followed by an explanation by AICS Center Director Hirao on the most recent research achievements made with the K computer and how the supercomputer is being used. The group then moved to the computer room to see the actual K computer.

This visit by Prince Akishino was held as part of his visit to Kobe in order to attend the commemoration and celebration marking the 150th anniversary of the opening of Kobe Port on January 1 of this year.
