Strong Correlation Interface Research Group

Group Director: Masashi Kawasaki (D.Eng.)
Masashi Kawasaki(D.Eng.)

Being distinct from conventional semiconductors where single electron picture can explain their properties and device functionalities, those in correlated oxides are governed by electron-electron interaction. When dissimilar electronic states are adjoined at atomically controlled interfaces, their keen competition is expected to give gigantic responses to external stimuli. Also emerging field is to explore novel quantum transport in two-dimensional systems created at the interfaces of such materials. We aim at designing and controlling the interfacial properties to realize surpassing device performances in switches, sensors and photovoltaics to those of semiconductors.
