In collaboration with JAXA, our group aims at utilizing the International Space Station (ISS) for various space observations and experiments. On the Exposed Facility of the Japan Experimental Module Kibo, the MAXI instrument developed mainly by RIKEN is watching the variable X-ray sky since 2009. A confocal unit will soon be installed on the fluorescence microscope in the Kibo’s Pressurized Vessel, to be utilized in various biological researches under micro-gravity environment. In collaboration with 12 other countries, we are also attempting to put the ultra-high-energy cosmic-ray experiment, K- EUSO, on the Russian section of the ISS. In 2017, Mini-EUSO, a precursor of K-Euso, will be placed inside the Russian Zvezda module of the ISS.
