RIKEN publishes almost 2000 original papers each year in physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, and many areas of technology. We believe that our research output is well known among researchers in the same fields. But researchers do not have much time to read papers in other fields. This has led to the present situation, in which awareness of RIKEN as a whole is rather low. The main content of RIKEN RESEARCH is short, easy-to-understand "Research Highlight" articles about some of the latest research articles published by RIKEN researchers, for a broad scientific audience. RIKEN RESEARCH will also contain some other contents that researchers outside RIKEN might be interested in. RIKEN RESEARCH is published as a website in English and Japanese each week (http://www.rikenresearch.riken.jp), and the print edition will be published monthly, in English only. You can download the PDF version of the print edition if you register on the top page of the website. We hope you enjoy RIKEN RESEARCH.
