@ The Response to the Review Committee's Report @ We appreciate the great effort of the Committee to prepare the report based on wide-ranging and sedulous analyses. We acknowledge the recommendation of the early commencement of the SCSS construction. We will make every effort to develop user community and to promote international collaboration. In fact, we have held several workshops after the review meeting and received many new proposals for novel applications of XFEL. We are planning to investigate carefully the technical problems that you have pointed out. For example, the radiation effects on the undulator magnets will be checked through the collaboration with PAL. Development of new magnetic materials is also underway in collaboration with industrial partners. We are sharing the same feeling with the Committee that the project schedule of the SCSS is ambitious but it is feasible in view of the competence of the project team and the accumulated knowledge at the SPring-8 site, if the resources are appropriately allocated. We are now preparing a formal collaboration scheme with KEK on the XFEL development. Tetsutaro Iizuka June, 2005 @ |
