RIKEN Research Cluster for Innovation

The Research Cluster for Innovation (RCI) provides a systematic framework for RIKEN to "contribute to society and win society's trust" by enabling RIKEN to focus the full force of its diverse and inter-disciplinary capabilities on problem-solving research directed at finding solutions to the critical issues that confront humanity today, thereby creating a "social wisdom "that will help to drive the advancement and reform of society as a whole. Furthermore, RIKEN's "baton zone", which was created on the basis of strong ties with industry and medical institutions, provides a framework for technology transfer. The knowledge gained through problem-solving research in the baton zone will form the basis of innovation that will enable RIKEN to create "social value".
