The Center for Advanced Intelligence Project has been launched with subsidy from Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology-Japan for “Advanced Integrated Intelligence Platform Project (AIP) -Artificial Intelligence/ Big Data/ Internet of Things/ Cybersecurity-”.
The Center conducts fundamental theoretical research and develops an innovative technology, with aiming to advance science and contribute to society or humanity.
This Center is a project with a maximum of 10 years from FY 2016.

Job description

The candidate is expected to conduct research on the development of tensor-based machine learning methods, adversarial machine learning algorithms or the simulation of quantum machine learning with tensor networks. The programing skills on machine learning algorithms and the experience of publishing papers are highly expected. The students who are self-motivated and willing to do research works are welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Education

PhD students are preferred, and the master students who have strong motivation on research is also applicable.

Experience

THave experiences in research and publishing papers at major machine learning conferences.
If a candidate is an overseas student studying in Japan, he/she

• 1.Can verify having Permission to Engage in Activity other than that Permitted under the Status of Residence Previously Granted
• 2.Does not have a concurrent position outside of RIKEN
• 3.Works no more than 28 hours per week

Salary and benefits

Hourly wage

• 1.1,150-1,350JPY (Research Part-time Worker II)
• 2,1,450-1,650JPY (Research Part-time Worker I )

*Hourly wages will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.Commuting allowance provided (within a pre-determined range.)

Term of contract

Annual contract, Initial term of contract shall be until March 31, 2024. Contract is renewable upon agreement of both sides until March 31, 2026. RIKEN may adjust the above maximum period of renewability based on a) the employee’s abilities, work load at the time of contract completion, performance and work attitude and b) the continuation of the employee’s center, laboratory or project and RIKEN’s management situation and budget at the time.

Working days and hours

1 to 5 days, within 35 hours/week with daily working hours either as below:

• 1. From 9:00 am to 5:20 pm
• 2.In stipulated one-hour units between 9:00 am and 5:20 pm

(Working hours are negotiable. However, daily working hours cannot be shifted for different days.)

Holidays

Saturdays and Sundays, Japanese National Holidays, Year-end and New Year (Dec. 29 - Jan　3), and RIKEN Foundation Day (4th Monday in October).

Others

Worker’s accident compensation insurance applies. Social insurance will be applied depending on the working conditions.
RIKEN has introduced telework as a temporary and special measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19. You may be asked to work from home according to the instructions of the institute. You can also choose to work from home with the permission of your supervisor.

Smoking is not permitted on site except in designated smoking areas. Smoking will be entirely prohibited on site from April 2024.
Other provisions are in accordance with RIKEN regulations.
