Seeking a Research Scientist or Postdoctoral Researcher (H24-002)

Laboratory

Life Science Research Infrastructure Group
Advanced Photon Technology Division
RIKEN SPring-8 Center
(Group Director: Nobutaka Shimizu)

Research Field

Our group is dedicated to advancing the frontiers of structural life sciences and drug discovery through the utilization of cutting-edge facilities, including the large synchrotron radiation facility SPring-8, the X-ray free-electron laser (XFEL) facility SACLA, and state-of-the-art cryo-electron microscopy. We oversee the operation of these sophisticated facilities, ensuring their availability for public scientific research, while also spearheading efforts to enhance their capabilities and infrastructure. Our primary objective is the development of advanced measurement and analysis techniques for X-ray crystallography and small-angle X-ray scattering, leveraging the unparalleled brightness of synchrotron radiation and XFEL sources. Furthermore, we are actively engaged in pioneering research on single-particle structure analysis using cryo-electron microscopy. In tandem, we are also dedicated to establishing and refining conducive measurement environments for soft material science research using small-angle X-ray scattering, as well as developing new devices and measurement techniques.

Job title and Job description

Job Title

Research Scientist or Postdoctoral Researcher: 1 position

In principle, those who have completed their doctoral degree within 5 years will be appointed as Research Scientist, and those who have completed more than 5 years will be appointed as Postdoctoral Researcher.

Job description

This position is in charge of research and development of new instruments and measurement analysis techniques for structure-property correlation analysis using small-angle X-ray scattering over a wide spatio-temporal scale, aiming at further development of polymer chemistry and soft materials science research. In addition, the group will promote structure-property relationship studies of target materials in collaboration with researchers inside and outside the group, utilizing those instruments and techniques.

The job description may be changed during the contract period or upon contract renewal to the extent described above.

Qualification

The candidate should possess a doctoral degree or be expected to complete a doctoral degree by the date of appointment due to research in a related field, e.g., polymer chemistry. Experience with small-angle X-ray scattering beamlines at domestic or foreign synchrotron radiation facilities is desirable.

Work location
