Outline of Laboratory

The RIKEN Center for Advanced Intelligence Project has been launched since April 2016 with the subsidy for “Advanced Integrated Intelligence Platform Project-Artificial Intelligence/ Big Data/ Internet of Things/ Cybersecurity-.” from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Our center aims to achieve scientific breakthroughs and to contribute to the welfare of society and humanity through developing innovative technologies. We also conduct research on ethical, legal and social issues caused by the spread of AI technology and develop human resources.
Based on the management policies decided by the Center Director and Deputy Director, the Office of the Center Director makes action plans and manages them to tackle organizational management challenges, realizes the vision envisioned by top management, and gives support to the Center for smooth management.

Note:

  • Appropriate positions will be assigned based on the capability and aptitude of the candidate.
  • The successful candidate will concurrently serve as the Deputy Director (Manager level) in the Office of the Center Director.

Job description

Under the direction of the Center Director and Deputy Center Director, this position is responsible for the management of the following tasks required for the operation of the Center.

  • 1.Human resources (recruitment of researchers, administrative procedures for employees, planning and implementation of new human resources acquisition schemes, etc.)
  • 2.Budget (planning and execution of budget schemes, etc.)
  • 3.Contract and asset management tasks
  • 4.Information security and security-related tasks
  • 5.Support for obtaining external funding and management of its execution
  • 6.External collaboration and public relations
  • 7.Maintenance and management of the IT environment necessary for work of the Office of the Center Director, and streamlining of work through DX
  • 8.Other work related to the operation of the Center.

The job description may be changed during the contract period or upon contract renewal to the extent described above.

Qualifications

  • Education: University graduate or higher
  • Ability to carry out work using English.
  • Experience working in a university or research institution in a field related to the job description.
  • Knowledge of research fields related to the Center's research content, such as information science and artificial intelligence, is desirable.
  • Have an interest in new IT technology and willing to work enthusiastically on implementing DX in the workplace.
  • Proactive, cooperative, flexible, and able to respond to situations as they arise.
  • Have good communication skills to work in collaboration and cooperation with people both inside and outside RIKEN.

Work location

RIKEN Center for Advanced Intelligence Project (1-4-1, Nihonbashi, Chuo, Tokyo)

RIKEN has implemented a work-from-home system. Employees can work from home in accordance with the prescribed procedures.
RIKEN may order the employee to change work locations, if necessary.

Salary and benefits

  • 1.A one-year fixed-term employment contract, renewable based on evaluation, to a maximum of March 31, 2032.
  • 2.RIKEN may adjust the above maximum period of renewability based on the employee’s abilities, work load at the time of contract completion, performance and work attitude and the continuation of the employee’s center, laboratory or project and RIKEN’s management situation and budget at the time. In principle, employment contracts will not be renewed for individuals older than age 70.

In principle, the first two months of employment is considered a trial period.
Salary will be an annual salary based on experience, ability, and performance, and will consist of a base salary and a variable salary. The variable salary will be determined each fiscal year based on experience, ability, and performance. The monthly base salary as of April 1, 2025 is as follows.
Coordinator (Director level): 744,300 JPY
Manager: 638,400 JPY
The monthly base salary and variable salary are subject to change due to amendments to RIKEN regulations.

Commuting and housing allowances will be provided. Social insurance will be applied.

The approximate amount of annual salary at the time of employment:
Coordinator (Director level): 8,930,000 - 14,000,000 JPY
Manager: 7,660,000 - 10,000,000 JPY
Decided based on experience, ability, and achievements.

Mandatory membership in the RIKEN Mutual Benefit Society (RIKEN Kyosaikai).
Working hours: 9:00-17:20 (lunch break 12:00-12:50) in principle. However, the employee may change starting and ending times at their own discretion, if it does not interfere with work performance.

Days off include Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, New Year's holidays (Dec. 29 – Jan. 3), and RIKEN Foundation Day.
Paid leave includes annual paid leave (up to 20 days depending on the month of employment), special paid leave (childcare, family nursing care, etc.), and work life balance holidays (up to 7 days depending on the month of employment).
There are also additional leave systems such as maternity leave, childcare leave, and family nursing care leave.
Smoking is entirely prohibited on site.
These and other provisions are in accordance with RIKEN regulations.

    Note:
    • If you cannot obtain a letter of recommendation from your current supervisor, the same document issued by a third party is acceptable.
    • If you are currently affiliated with RIKEN, prepare two letters of recommendation written by external persons. (i.e. A letter of recommendation from your current supervisor is not required.)
    • No seal is required on the recommendation form, but if you omit the seal, please be sure to include the contact information of the recommender (name, affiliation, job title, telephone number, and e-mail address).
