New algorithm to manage wide-targeting analysis

RIKEN No.: 07772

Summary

Development of a wide-targeting analysis method subjecting numerous targets requires examination of an enormous number of conditions. Thus practical data could not be obtained for several years in many cases, even when expensive equipment was used.

To address this problem, this laboratory has developed an innovative management algorithm that can realize wide-targeting analysis applying large numbers of detection targets. Using this algorithm, it is possible to automatically create a method that suits the user's goals, such as high speed, high sensitivity and broad range, by allowing them to set the threshold values at levels appropriate to their equipment's performance (see figure).

We have conducted joint research with 19 domestic and international research institutes utilizing this technology so far, and proved that it can be applied to a broad range of detection targets (approximately 700 different metabolism products) and measurement subjects (20 or more plant species). Furthermore, it has been shown to enable examination of conditions, which had taken conventional methods several months, in only a moment.

If this technology is used as general time schedule management software, it will deliver instant management of time shift preparation for employees, reservation of various event venues and so forth.
