Research Summary

Kazunari Miyamichi(Ph.D.)

We use viral-genetic tools that enable mapping of input, output, and input–output relationships of specific neural types at the scale of the entire brain, and systematically map connection patterns of hypothalamic neurons underlying various social behaviors in mice. Specifically, we study sex differences in the neural circuit that regulates sexual behaviors and reproduction, and the state-dependent circuit shift for parturition and lactation in female mice during pregnancy. In addition, we extend cell-type specific viral toolbox beyond mice by using CRISPR-mediated in situ gene knock-in to study the evolution of circuit organization and function across mammalian species.
