RIKEN SPring-8 Center XFEL Research and Development Division
Division Director: Hitoshi Tanaka (D.Eng.)
Research Summary

The X-ray Free Electron Laser Facility, SACLA (SPring-8 Angstrom Compact free electron LAser), which is one of the key technologies of national importance, was completed in FY2010 and its user operation has been started since March 2012. RIKEN formed the division in order to realize speedy start-up of user operation, flexible use of XFEL over various scientific fields, and improvement of XFEL performance. This division is composed of three groups, i.e., accelerator R&D, beam line R&D, and safety design ones to conduct synergetic and efficient R&D on XFEL performance improvement and innovative XFEL applications.
