Field of Studies: Geometric Methods for Shape Modeling and Analysis

Shape Modeling and Analysis is a research field which treats a shape by the science and engineering techniques. This area was came from a design purpose with variational splines since 200 years. It is inherited by the computer aided design/manufacturing, and computer graphics. On the other hand, a solution in the field of mathematics about the algebraic or differential equation is equivalent to a shape. It had been used for describing and visualizing about the physical phenomenon of a nature, for example, isobar of a weather map. Furthermore, the solutions by which geometric structures, such as graph structure, were optimized has been used in computer vision and image processing by the computational topology and geometry. Although the computational speed and precision accuracy are always trade-off, the goal is developing the automatic algorithm which has high quality, high speed, and high reliability for the shape modeling and analysis.
