On October 24, 2014, a delegation of researchers from RIKEN visited Hefei, China, to participate in a joint workshop with the University of Science and Technology of China, organized as a part of RIKEN DAY activities, a program designed to attract students from prestigious universities abroad to RIKEN.
Following an introduction by Executive Director Maki Kawai on RIKEN and its programs for junior scientists, a series of presentations on research were given by researchers from the two institutions. From RIKEN, Yousoo Kim gave an introduction to surface and physical chemistry, Chiko Otani talked about advanced photonics, and Tomohiro Uesaka gave a presentation on nuclear physics and related areas.
After the event, Dr. Kawai said, "We hope that in addition to introducing students to the diversity of RIKEN's research, this event will serve to stimulate closer collaboration between RIKEN and USTC."
