On February 14, the RIKEN Preventive Medicine & Diagnosis Innovation Program will hold its inaugural international symposium in Yokohama.

The symposium, to be conducted in English, will focus on disease management and preventive health care.

The speakers will include Dr. Kristi Funk, who made headlines recently for performing a preventive mastectomy for actress Angelina Jolie, Bogi Eliasen, who is conducting a genomic analysis of the entire population of the Faroe Islands, and the directors of a number of RIKEN centers working toward medical advances.

The Preventive Medicine & Diagnosis Innovation Program was established in April 2013 as an office to conduct research and promote collaborations within RIKEN and with outside institutions with the aim to develop new drugs and diagnostic technologies for preventing diseases.
