RIKEN and Kazan Federal University open second joint laboratory
On June 16, 2014, a commemorative event was held at Kazan Federal University in Russia to mark the signing of a memorandum of understanding between RIKEN and the university and the opening of the Biofunctional Chemistry Laboratory at KFU.
The signing ceremony was attended by Global Research Cluster Director Kohei Tamao and KTU Rector Ilshat Gafurov.
The Biofunctional Chemistry Laboratory is the second joint laboratory set up by the two institutions, following a lab set up in 2010 to pursue research in the area of low-temperature physics.
The aim of the new laboratory will be to develop innovative glycoconjugates that selectively recognize target organs or tumors. The lab will be co-supervised by Dr. Katsunori Tanaka from RIKEN and Dr. Almira Kurbangalieva from KFU.
