Research Summary

Hirozumi Yamaguchi

The Cloud is a computing platform that securely provides computers, system development environments, and various services for education, business, and entertainment via the Internet leveraging virtualized large-scale computing resources in data centers.
The high-performance computer ""Fugaku"" and next-generation flagship systems are required to enable instant big data analysis, AI processing, and advanced simulations using various data obtained from IoT devices and experimental equipment, in addition to supporting conventional scientific computing. Furthermore, secure high-performance computing (HPC) technologies are required to address the cybersecurity risks associated with such flexible use.

Our research team is developing Cloud-HPC convergence platform technologies and secure software to realize safe and advanced high-performance computing on those platforms.
Specifically, we will enable highly efficient HPC infrastructure that adapts cloud-native technologies such as virtualization and container technologies to HPC, and advanced scientific computing that allows existing scientific computing to leverage cloud services such as data infrastructure, visualization environments, and generative AI. To ensure the safe use of these computing platforms, we are also working on high-performance secure system software that utilizes virtualization and a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) based on hardware support. We aim to establish safe and advanced high-performance computing infrastructure technologies.
