RIKEN Nishina Center for Accelerator-Based Science Beam Mutagenesis Group
Director: Tomoko Abe (D.Agr.)
Research Summary
The Beam Mutagenesis Group develops and expands mutation breeding technology using ion beams produced by the RI Beam Factory. The Ion Beam Breeding Team studies the biological effects of fast heavy ions and the molecular nature of DNA alterations induced by accelerated heavy ions. The Plant Genome Evolution Research Team focuses on the development of mutant-genome analysis technology with the cutting-edge DNA sequencing and bioinformatics techniques to study plant and microbial genome evolution. The two teams collaborate to further advance breeding technology and produce new plant and microbial varieties that will contribute to solving global food, health, environmental, and energy issues.
