Seeking a Unit Leader (R-CCS-PI2302)

Laboratory

System Operations and Development Unit, Operations and Computer Technologies Division, RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS)

Research Field

RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS), led by Center Director Satoshi Matsuoka, is an international hub for computational science that promotes "science of computing, by computing, and for computing." R-CSS positions the technology in which RIKEN has strengths (R-CCS technology) and the software developed by RIKEN that contributes to science, technology, industry, and society (R-CCS software) as its "core competence in computational science driving science as a whole." R-CCS aims to develop these technologies, disseminate them domestically and internationally, and produce results. In addition, R-CCS utilizes its expertise to operate the supercomputer Fugaku, developed as Japan's national project, in accordance with relevant ordinances.

The Operations and Computer Technologies Division, responsible for the stable operation of Fugaku, and for upgrading its operational technologies and surrounding environment, contains five units that handle these tasks. Of those, the System Operations and Development Unit conducts operations and maintenance management, user management, and user support for the stable operation of Fugaku, in addition to the research and development on its advanced management and operations. While conducting maintenance management on R-CCS networks, this unit will also promote development of operational technologies that contribute to Fugaku's optimization (energy-saving), and ways to work toward carbon neutrality with sights on next-generation computing infrastructure.
