Seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher (25-803)

Laboratory

Laboratory for Gametogenesis
RIKEN Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research
(Laboratory head: Hiroki Shibuya)

Outline of Laboratory

The Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research (BDR) views the functions of molecules, cells, and organs that support all life stages of organisms as a dynamic system, and aims to elucidate developmental, growth and aging phenomena as well as apply their findings to develop regenerative medicine and diagnostics, thereby contributing to the extension of healthy life expectancies.

The Laboratory for Gametogenesis investigates the molecular basis of germ cell-specific biological phenomena by integrating approaches from genetics, cytology, biochemistry, and bioinformatics using model organisms such as mice, opossums (marsupials), and nematodes. Our research focuses particularly on chromosome dynamics during meiosis, mechanisms of homologous recombination, regulation of chromosome segregation, epigenetic regulation, and centriole transformation.

Job title and Job description

Job title

Postdoctoral Researcher: 1 position

Position-specific tasks are as follows:
Postdoctoral Researcher: Carry out research and other work in accordance with laboratory research themes under the mentorship and training of supervisors.

Job description

By combining cell biological, genetic, and in silico analyses using mice, opossums, and nematodes, our goal is to elucidate germ cell-specific biological phenomena—including telomere regulation, homologous recombination, centriole transformation, and epigenetic control—and to uncover the mechanisms that ensure the immortality of gametes essential for species survival. Research will begin based on preliminary data already obtained in our laboratory, and is expected to evolve into an original project by incorporating the researcher’s own technical expertise and background.
