Dr. Ishikawa receives a prize in recognition of his work on leukemia

Dr. Fumihiko Ishikawa, who is Group Director and Chief Scientist at the RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences will be awarded the 10th Prize of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).

Dr. Ishikawa is being recognized for a study that lead to the identification of a compound that targets leukemia stem cells in a mouse model of acute myeloid leukemia and could be used to prevent relapse in patients suffering from the disease. A press release was issued about this work.

The JSPS prize, established in 2004, is intended to recognize and support outstanding young researchers showing both creativity and excellence in research at an early stage in their career.

The prize is awarded to 25 researchers every year, in the fields of humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.
