Kosuke Morita, Group Director of the Research Group for Superheavy Element at the RIKEN Nishina Center for Accelerator-Based Science and Professor at Kyushu University, was awarded the Japan Academy Prize for his work in discovering element 113. The prize is awarded for important research achievements by the Japan Academy.
Upon hearing the news, Morita said, “It is a great honor to receive this recognition for the many years of research I did along with my many collaborators. We were able to do this research thanks to the enormous support we received from the public, and I am very grateful for that. The award provides me with renewed determination to search for further elements.”
