Research Summary
Soft materials are lightweight, flexible, and biomimetic , and therefore have attracted increasing attention. However, when comparing artificial and natural soft materials, the structure of the former is isotropic, while the latter is anisotropic. Natural soft materials, such as muscles and nerves, perform amazing functions due to this anisotropy. Inspired by them, we develop anisotropic soft materials by in-situ synthesis under external fields such as magnetic fields. In the resulting materials, the mutual interference between the constituents is maximized, leading to special properties and functions. Recently, we have also been developing materials with autonomy and polarity, which are even closer to the living body.
