RIKEN Nishina Center for Accelerator-Based Science Nuclear Transmutation Data Group
Director: Hiroyoshi Sakurai (D.Sc.)
Research Summary
The disposal of high-level radioactive wastes from nuclear power plants is one of the most important issues at both national and international levels. As a fundamental solution to the problem, the establishment of nuclear transmutation technology where long-lived nuclides are changed to short-lived or stable ones will be vital. Progresses of R&D for the transmutation of long-lived fission products (LLFP) however, has been slow. Our group aims to obtain reaction data of LLFP at RIBF and other facilities, which may lead to a new discovery and invention for peaceful use of nuclear power and the welfare of humanity.
