Diversity and inclusion

Providing a better living environment for non-Japanese employees

Each campus offers a bilingual support system so that non-Japanese researchers and their families can adapt to life in Japan and focus on their research activities.

Not only the intranet, but all information is provided both in Japanese and English in principle, and English newsletters are also available.

In addition, we provide useful information for those moving from overseas.

Please refer to “For Newcomers” for details.

Improving employees’ English ability

To improve English skills among Japanese employees and non-native English speakers, RIKEN encourages employees to use English on a daily basis by providing online seminars and other training, as well as sending selected individuals overseas for English language training. To provide smooth administrative support in English, we strive to improve the English ability of our employees.

An inclusive approach to sexual and gender minorities

As part of the international network for brain circulation, RIKEN is striving to create a diverse and vibrant research environment. RIKEN is also taking an inclusive approach toward sexual and gender minorities, and recognizes the use of chosen name (names other than legal names) for those who wish to identify themselves according to their gender identity. RIKEN started supporting this option in August 2021.
