Research Field

Using human genomics and statistical genetics, this laboratory will clarify how non-coding regions of the human genome contribute to phenotypic expression. In this new field, the principles of Mendelian inheritance may not necessarily be applicable. We will conduct “dry lab” research in conjunction with experimental verification using approaches such as cell biology, immunology, and epigenetics to develop a field of non-coding genome medical science research.

Job Description

  • Team Leader will oversee and smoothly manage the research team.
  • Team Leader provides accurate instructions, guidance, and advice to researchers and technical staff, etc. and promote research by the research team at a high level.
  • Team Leader will earn external research funding.

The job description may be changed during the contract period or upon contract renewal to the extent described above.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and have substantial postdoctoral training with a record of excellent research accomplishments suitable to conduct the projects explained above.
  • Applicants must have research achievements in the relevant field.
  • Applicants must be those who operate a research team consisting of researchers, etc., and have the ability to lead and promote research.

*The successful applicant will be requested to work full-time in RIKEN.

RIKEN has implemented a work-from-home system. Employees can work from home in accordance with the prescribed procedures.
RIKEN may order the employee to change work locations, if necessary.

Salary and Benefits

Terms of contract

  • 1.A one-year fixed-term employment contract, renewable based on evaluation, to a maximum of the end of the fiscal year (March 31) in which the employee completes 7 years of employment.
  • 2.RIKEN may adjust the above maximum period of renewability based on a) the employee’s abilities, workload at the time of contract completion, performance and work attitude and b) the continuation of the employee’s center, laboratory, or project and RIKEN’s management situation and budget at the time. In principle, employment contracts will not be renewed for individuals older than 70 years.
  • 3.The Center is scheduled for a center review in FY2024 in accordance with RIKEN’s Mid- to Long-term Plan ending on March 31, 2025. If it is decided that the Employee’s affiliated project, laboratory or center will end, the previous provision applies and the maximum limit on contract renewals is subject to change.

[Salary]・[Holidays]・[Other provisions]

There will be a trial period of employment (in principle, 2 months).
Salary will be an annual salary based on experience, ability, and performance, and will consist of a base salary and a variable salary. The variable salary will be determined each fiscal year based on experience, ability, and performance. The monthly base salary and variable salary are subject to change due to amendments to RIKEN regulations.
Commuting and housing allowances will be provided. Social security insurance will be applied.

The approximate amount of annual salary at the time of employment:
The annual salary at hire will be more than 8.4 million yen/year.

Mandatory membership in the RIKEN Mutual Benefit Society (RIKEN Kyosaikai) is required.
Work hours: 9:00 to 17:20 (lunch break 12:00 to 12:50). However, the employee may change starting and ending times at their own discretion if it does not interfere with work performance.

Days off include public holidays, New Year's holidays (Dec. 29 - Jan 3), and RIKEN Foundation Day.
Paid leave includes annual paid leave (up to 20 days per year depending on the month of employment), special paid leave (childcare, family nursing care, etc.), and work-life balance holidays (up to 7 days per year depending on the month of employment). There are also additional leave systems such as maternity leave, childcare leave, and family nursing care leave.

Smoking is entirely prohibited on site from April 2024.
These and other provisions are in accordance with RIKEN regulations.
