5th RIKEN-MPG Joint Symposium on Chemical Biology held in Berlin
From April 17 to 20, the 5th RIKEN-MPG Joint Symposium on Chemical Biology was held at the Harnack-Haus, the Max Planck Society’s seminar facility in Berlin. The symposium, with approximately 30 participants each from RIKEN and MPG, featured scientific presentations and discussion between the scientists.
Director Peter Seeberger of the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Potsdam-Golm, began the symposium with a welcome address, and RIKEN Executive Director Shigeo Koyasu gave the opening remarks. In his remarks he looked back at the collaborative relationship between the two countries and institutes, and expressed his hopes for the further development of these ties.
The Joint Research Center for Systems Chemical Biology, which was established in 2011 under the leadership of Director Seeberger, Director Herbert Waldmann of the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology, Dortmund, Joint Center Director Hiroyuki Osada and Group Director Naoyuki Taniguchi of the the RIKEN Global Research Cluster, has the aim of promoting cooperation between the two institutes in the area of systems chemical biology and to become a leading global center in that field.
