Israeli Minister of Science, Technology and Space visits RIKEN's Wako Campus

On March 24, a delegation led by Ofir Akunis, Israel’s Minister of Science, Technology and Space, visited the RIKEN Wako Campus.

After a greeting and briefing on RIKEN provided by Executive Directors Koyasu Shigeo and Shigeharu Kato, RIKEN Cluster for Industry Partnerships Director Akihiro Fujita gave the group a report on his visit to Israeli research institutes the previous week.

Following the briefing, the delegation visited the RIKEN Brain Science Institute (BSI). BSI Deputy Director Atsushi Miyawaki brought them to the Laboratory for Circuit and Behavioral Physiology, where Team Leader Thomas McHugh introduced his group’s research on animal behavior.

The delegation then moved to the Information Science Building, where they were given a tour of several of RIKEN’s supercomputers including Shobu, Satsuki and Hokusai. Their questions were answered by Advanced Center for Computing and Communication Wako Unit Leader Motoyoshi Kurokawa, whose group operates those systems.
