RIKEN SPring-8 Center Advanced Electron Gun Development Team

Team Leader: Kazuaki Togawa (D.Sc.)

Research Summary

Kazuaki Togawa

The Advanced Electron Gun Development Team leads the quality upgrade of the SACLA XFEL in terms of brightness, pulse structure, and stability by developing new electron source technologies. Our research is focused on: (i) search for electron cathodes delivering ultrahigh brightness beams, (ii) electron gun and injector optimization for achieving minimum emittance, (iii) laser-based control of the beam phase-space. Our research takes advantage of basic sciences: beam physics, material and surface science, laser technology, and high-voltage engineering. We aim at developing novel electron sources and accelerators that will enable access to new science fields.
