RIKEN SPring-8 Center SPring-8 Upgrade Design Group

Group Director: Toru Hara (D.Sc.)

Research Summary

Toru Hara

The Group is committed to the upgrade of the accelerator based light sources, SPring-8 and SACLA, located in the SPring-8 campus. At SPring-8, we are engaged in the design and component development for a next-generation synchrotron radiation source that employs Multi-Bend Achromat (MBA). Our goal is to realize a high-brightness light source with emittance of below 100 pm-rad. At SACLA, we will develop technology that enables to increase a pulse repetition rate of a normal conducting linear accelerator by more than an order of magnitude. Our goal is not only to enhance the light source performance but also to achieve energy savings simultaneously.
