The mission of the RIKEN Information R&D and Strategy Headquarters (R-IH) is to promote and operate RIKEN’s information infrastructure and information research, in a strategic and integrated way. The Headquarters consists of support departments and advanced, cross-cutting research projects.

The Information Systems Division, one of the support divisions, carries out activities to achieve RIKEN's ICT Strategy during the fourth mid-to-long term goal period. The Infrastructure Research and Development Division contributes to the promotion of Open Science throughout RIKEN. In addition, the Headquarters operates two projects, one carrying out developmental research on data science in the health and medical fields and designing methodologies to solve social issues via data science, and the other carrying out R&D for the social implementation of next-generation robots, which are constructively demonstrated from computational elucidation of the human mind, especially recognition.

Information Systems Division

The Information Systems Division’s primary function is to provide IT support throughout RIKEN. The Information and Technology Integrated Strategy Council and its various committees deliberate, draft, and implement information systems strategies, and plan, construct, manage, and provide user support for RIKEN’s information systems infrastructure (including the IT systems for administrative staff). This division is also responsible for implementing cybersecurity measures, setting policies and drafting guidelines for information ethics, as well as acting promptly when incidents occur.
